Tips for whining puppy

We have just adopted a 7 week old puppy and at night it whines.  People have suggested a small light and a radio.  We have done both but it was up at 4.30am and whined for 15 minutes.  Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Maybe you can try this..it worked when my puppy was 8 weeks.

You need to consider what type of dog/ temperament it has?

When you bought it, Did it have any siblings? Maybe you can give him a soft toys puppy friend, next to its bed, to keep it company.

You can play with it/ go for long walks etc.. for at least 1- 2 hours a day, can split the time morning/ after work.. and basically to tire it out, so it sleeps soundly at night.

Where is it sleeping? Is it warm, comfortable & safe? Is it too far from your bedroom?
(These are the sorts of questions you need to ask yourself. A puppy is much like a child, when it whines.. it means something isn’t right.. Scared maybe? separation anxiety? You need to find out the cause and teach it to respond properly, not just whining.)

Also, teach it to go to toilet before you go to bed.. it helps. (Doggy treats helps in training)

Is your pup sleeping in an ‘empty bed’? Puppies “pile” on one another when with their mother (so cute) so now he is all alone, you may need to put him in a smaller bed (bargain shops have cheap beds) or fill his bigger bed with things to pile on.

A dog crate is also a great investment. I used to show my dogs and they loved their crate. My dog would get into it at home if it were up with the door open. Don’t think this is cruel … they can stand up and lay down flat. Also remember dogs like to have a den, so a crate gives this effect. Crates are also ideal for when the dog is sick or needs to be immobilised to get over an injury, sickness or surgery (desexing).
